New artefact in our collection
April 4, 2025

Another extraordinary item has been added to the collections of the Jewish Museum. It is a distinctive blue tin can used to collect donations for Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael – the Jewish National Fund (est. 1901), which supported Jewish settlement in Palestine.
For decades, the can was an integral part of Zionist homes, schools, and organizational headquarters. It was always placed in a prominent location, and a weekly ritual involved dropping coins into it before Shabbat.
The item was discovered during a roof renovation in one of the houses in Przecieszyn, where Jews who belonged to the Oświęcim community also lived. After renovation, the tin box will be featured in our Museum’s main exhibition.
We would like to thank Łukasz Szymański for his help in acquiring it.
