Children in the Kraków ghetto. Virtual session with Dr Joanna Śliwa
September 19, 2024 (Thursday) 6:00 PM

The meeting will be held in Polish on Facebook
We invite teachers and all interested individuals to participate in an online meeting with Dr. Joanna Śliwa, a renowned historian and author of the book *Jewish Childhood in Kraków: A Microhistory of the Holocaust*. This book won the prestigious Ernst Fraenkel Prize awarded by the Wiener Holocaust Library.
The meeting will focus on the experiences of Jewish children and youth growing up in the Kraków ghetto during World War II. Dr. Śliwa, giving voice to the youngest who remained in the shadows of history for many years, reveals the daily challenges, fears, and hopes of young people facing the Holocaust.
Her research, based on memoirs and documents, shows how the war affected the lives of children who experienced tragedies and the loss of loved ones. Their perspective is a crucial element in understanding the history of the Holocaust.
The meeting will not only be a lesson in history but also a reflection on the importance of memory and giving a voice to those who remained unheard for years.
Dr. Joanna Śliwa is an esteemed historian specializing in the history of Jews in Poland and Eastern Europe during World War II, with a particular focus on Jewish children and youth.
She has many years of experience in academic research and teaching. Currently, she serves as a historian and program administrator of Holocaust-related scientific programs at the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany (Claims Conference) in New York.
The meeting is organized under the patronage of the Academy of Anti-Discrimination Education.
We thank the U.S. Consulate General in Kraków for their support.
